As a special highlight, we'll be hosting a children and youth book giveaway during the event. As always, kids and teens can browse and take home books to kick off the new school year with fresh reading material.

About This Event: Rebecca Loveland, founder of Downeast Donkey Walks in coastal Maine, shares her insights on how grounding techniques and working with donkeys can benefit mental and emotional wellbeing. Learn about the unique bond between humans and donkeys, the therapeutic benefits of spending time with these gentle animals, and the peaceful nature experiences offered at her 13-acre farm in Searsport.

About Downeast Donkey Walks: Rebecca owns four rescued donkeys and invites visitors to join hour-long pasture visits or guided trail walks through her wooded property. Her work focuses on creating peaceful, nature-focused outtings that promote stress relief and human-animal connection.

Avian Haven is a wildlife rehabilitation center dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of injured, sick, and orphaned wild birds in Maine, many of whom migrate from throughout the Atlantic Flyway.

Founded on the belief that every bird deserves a second chance, they provide expert veterinary care and compassionate rehabilitation in their state-of-the-art facility in rural Maine.

Tips for Enjoying the Wilderness by Trail

Aislinn Sarnacki, a registered Maine guide who has authored three books of Maine hikes, will share her favorite trails and tell stories about wonderful experiences she’s had in nature while hiking throughout the state. While sharing photos from her adventures, she’ll also offer advice for finding fascinating flora and fauna throughout the seasons. 

About the presenter: Aislinn has worked as an outdoor journalist for over a decade and is currently the host of the Emmy award-winning outdoor show “Borealis” on Maine Public Television. She also guides hikes in the Acadia region, with a focus on nature interpretation and enjoyment. Her three guidebooks are “Family-Friendly Hikes in Maine,” “Maine Hikes Off the Beaten Path,” and “Dog-Friendly Hikes in Maine.”

Loons are arriving in Maine and will soon be looking to have a family. Maine Master Naturalist and Audubon Volunteer Susan Cottle will be sharing info about loons, how they live, and what we can do to help them.
