Kennebec Valley Humane Society Presentation
Join us for a special presentation by the Kennebec Valley Humane Society. We are honored to welcome Tesse Rau, Visitor Services Manager at KVHS, as she shares the work being done to build a kinder community through the power of the human-animal bond. During this session, you will learn how KVHS nurtures connections between people and animals, their process for placing animals in foster and adoptive homes, the healing programs that give animals second chances, and ways you can support their mission. This event is free and open to everyone. Donations of pet food, towels, blankets, litter, and similar items are appreciated.
Experiential Energy Workshop with Martha Comfort
Join us for an experiential energy workshop and discussion featuring author Martha Comfort, celebrating the release of her book The Joy of Energy. This session offers a unique opportunity to participate in hands-on energy practices while gaining insight into the science, philosophy, and personal journey behind this groundbreaking work.
The program begins with an interactive energy session open to all attendees, providing direct experience with the techniques explored throughout the workshop. Following this practice session, we will sit down for a thoughtful conversation covering the development of The Joy of Energy, Martha's approach to investigating energy healing, and the experiences that shaped her perspective over two decades of study.
About the Author:
Martha Comfort brings a rare combination of maritime leadership, scientific training, and spiritual expertise to her exploration of energy healing. With decades of experience making high-stakes decisions while navigating international waters, she built businesses and brokered yachts across oceans before turning her empirical rigor toward the world of energy work.
Trained in biology and chemistry, Martha conducted a twenty-year investigation into energy healing practices under world-renowned shamanic teacher Alberto Villoldo and the Four Winds Society. She is a certified sound healing practitioner, an ordained minister, and a published author whose previous work, The Boat Buyers Handbook, established her reputation for precision and clarity.
Throughout her career, Martha has guided hundreds of clients through the practices described in her books. She approaches energy healing not as a matter of faith but as an evidence-based inquiry, sharing only what she has found to be demonstrably real through direct experience and careful observation.
She currently operates the Ocean of Joy Sanctuary in rural Maine, where she leads individual sessions, group ceremonies, and retreats. She is also a founding member of the Kountry Comfort Band

Curious about the trees in your backyard? Join the South China Public Library for a fun, family-friendly afternoon all about trees. Susan Cottle, Maine Master Naturalist, will teach us why trees are so important, how to identify different species, and how trees connect to the world around us.
Join us on Saturday, September 27 at 1:00 PM at the South China Public Library, 27 Jones Rd., South China, ME.
The learning continues the following week with a follow-up field trip on Saturday, October 4, when Susan will lead us on a walk in the woods at the China School Forest to put your new tree ID skills to the test. We'll meet at the kiosk.
This is a free event, and donations are welcome. Bring your questions, your curiosity, and a good pair of walking shoes for the follow up walk!

Nash's Cafe will be catering the event, so come hungry and ready to enjoy some delicious bites. We'll also have a variety of outdoor activities for everyone to enjoy. It's the perfect way to soak up the last days of summer sunshine.
As a special highlight, we'll be hosting a children and youth book giveaway during the event. As always, kids and teens can browse and take home books to kick off the new school year with fresh reading material.

Donkey Walk Presentation

About This Event: Rebecca Loveland, founder of Downeast Donkey Walks in coastal Maine, shares her insights on how grounding techniques and working with donkeys can benefit mental and emotional wellbeing. Learn about the unique bond between humans and donkeys, the therapeutic benefits of spending time with these gentle animals, and the peaceful nature experiences offered at her 13-acre farm in Searsport.
About Downeast Donkey Walks: Rebecca owns four rescued donkeys and invites visitors to join hour-long pasture visits or guided trail walks through her wooded property. Her work focuses on creating peaceful, nature-focused outtings that promote stress relief and human-animal connection.

Please join us as Barbara Haney, Executive Director, shares the mission of Avian Haven and how her dedicated team of experienced wildlife rehabilitators and trained volunteers work tirelessly year-round to give injured, sick and orphaned birds the care they need to return to the wild.
Avian Haven is a wildlife rehabilitation center dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of injured, sick, and orphaned wild birds in Maine, many of whom migrate from throughout the Atlantic Flyway.
Founded on the belief that every bird deserves a second chance, they provide expert veterinary care and compassionate rehabilitation in their state-of-the-art facility in rural Maine.

Maine Hikes & Nature Walks
Tips for Enjoying the Wilderness by Trail
Aislinn Sarnacki, a registered Maine guide who has authored three books of Maine hikes, will share her favorite trails and tell stories about wonderful experiences she’s had in nature while hiking throughout the state. While sharing photos from her adventures, she’ll also offer advice for finding fascinating flora and fauna throughout the seasons.
About the presenter: Aislinn has worked as an outdoor journalist for over a decade and is currently the host of the Emmy award-winning outdoor show “Borealis” on Maine Public Television. She also guides hikes in the Acadia region, with a focus on nature interpretation and enjoyment. Her three guidebooks are “Family-Friendly Hikes in Maine,” “Maine Hikes Off the Beaten Path,” and “Dog-Friendly Hikes in Maine.”
