About Us
The South China Library, founded in 1830, is the oldest continuously operating library in Maine. Cheryl Baker is our librarian.
Programs and services include:
• Summer program for children on Wednesday mornings
• Large print book collection
• Quaker collection
• Audiobooks
• Public computers
• Free wireless internet access
The library is supported by the Town of China and by donations from individuals. Our fundraisers include several book sales and yard sales. Our annual operating budget is around $11,000 with about half of the budget used to provide programs and purchase books and supplies, and half used to operate and maintain the library building. We accept donations of books, magazines, and movies. Items not added to the collection are sold at our book sales.
We are grateful for our volunteers who are dedicated to making every library visit enjoyable. Volunteers staff the library, process new books, help at the book sale, and take care of our historic building. If you would like to volunteer one morning or afternoon each month to help out at the library please contact the library.
